• We do not require an account and do not sell your personal information.
• Location and camera access are used only when you choose features that need them (nearby stores, barcode scan).
• Product and nutrition data come from third-party sources such as Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central.
• Search queries are sent to our API to return results — we do not build ad profiles.

Information we process

Search and product lookups

When you search by text or barcode, your query is sent to our servers at healthiercart.com to retrieve product nutrition, health scores, and store suggestions.

Location (mobile and web)

If you allow location access, we use your approximate coordinates to find nearby grocery stores (via Google Places) and, where configured, retailer inventory APIs. Location is requested only while you use location-based features. You can deny permission and still browse with a default area.

Camera (mobile app)

The barcode scanner uses your device camera locally to read a UPC. We send the barcode number to our API for product lookup; we do not store video from your camera.

Device storage (mobile app)

Recent scans and preferences may be stored on your device using local storage so you can revisit products offline. This data stays on your phone unless you clear app data or uninstall.

Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) may record standard request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, and URL path for security and reliability. We use this only to operate and protect the service.

Third-party services

We rely on external data and infrastructure providers, including:

• Open Food Facts — open product and ingredient database
• USDA FoodData Central — supplemental nutrition data
• Google Places — store locations when you share location
• Kroger and other retailer APIs — in-stock signals where available
• Vercel — website and API hosting
• Cloudflare — DNS and edge security

Each provider has its own privacy practices. We send only the data needed to fulfill your request (for example, search terms, barcodes, or coordinates).

Health and ingredient information

Grades, additive notes, and ingredient assessments are educational summaries drawn from public authorities and product labels. They are not medical, nutritional, or legal advice. Always read package labels and consult a professional for dietary or health decisions.

Children

HealthierCart is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

• Deny or revoke location and camera permissions in iOS Settings.
• Clear local app data by uninstalling the mobile app.
• Use the website without granting browser location.

Changes

We may update this policy as features evolve. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
