A Yuka Alternative That Flags Seed Oils and Dyes (2027)
November 2, 2026 · 4 min read
If you like Yuka but want seed oils and artificial dyes flagged on every scan, with the source behind each flag, HealthierCart is the closest alternative on iPhone. Scanning is free, and Premium is $9.99 once instead of Yuka's $15 a year. Yuka is still the better pick for European products, and its database and community are far larger. HealthierCart vs Yuka at a glance
- Price: Yuka is free, with a Premium membership at $15 a year (open pricing, per yuka.io). HealthierCart is free to scan, with Premium at $9.99 once and nothing to cancel.
- Scores: Yuka gives each product a 0 to 100 score. HealthierCart gives an A to F grade and shows which ingredient triggered each flag.
- Seed oils: HealthierCart flags refined seed oils such as soybean, canola, corn, cottonseed, sunflower, safflower, grapeseed and rice bran oil. Olive, avocado and coconut oil are not penalised. Yuka's Premium page lists preference alerts such as palm oil, gluten and vegetarian diet.
- Dyes and additives: HealthierCart flags artificial dyes such as Red 40 and Yellow 5 (tartrazine) and other additives, each linked to the FDA, EFSA, EPA or study behind the concern.
- Cosmetics: both apps scan personal care products as well as food.
- Swaps: both suggest healthier alternatives to a product that scores poorly.
- Size: Yuka has more than 100,000 ratings on the US App Store and says it has 85 million users. HealthierCart is new, so some products may not be in its database yet.
Stay with Yuka if…
- You mostly buy European products, where Yuka's coverage is strongest
- You prefer one number per product over a list of reasons
- You rely on its offline mode, search or long scan history (Premium features)
Try HealthierCart if…
- You avoid seed oils or artificial dyes and want them flagged without setting anything up
- You want to see the reason and the source behind every flag, not just a score
- You'd rather pay once than every year
Both are free to try, so the quickest test is to scan the same five products from your pantry in each and see which explanation you trust more. For a closer look at how Yuka's score works, read our post “Is the Yuka App Accurate?”.
